Blend van Grenache Blanc en Viognier - superblend

Made from Coastal Paarl Region grapes, whole-bunch pressed for well-defined flavour extraction. The wine shows vibrant green apple, fleshy peach and stone fruit, with citrus blossom and subtle spice notes. A beautiful match for a wide range of cuisines.

The Bernard Series was named after Bernard Podlashuk, visionary co-founder of the Bellingham brand and maverick winemaker. Never quite satisfied to be just ordinary, he is recognised for his daring vision, sheer audacity and unabated drive that helped place South African wine on the map. The legend of his tenacity and innovative flair lives on through the Bernard series, Bellingham’s premium range of hand-crafted wines.

The Grenache vineyard is located in the Voor Paardeberg ward near Paarl. Vineyard management is aimed at producing concentrated, perfectly ripe fruit and this includes very strict crop thinning. The Viognier grapes are specially selected for the good minerality and freshness they bring to the blend.

Whole-bunch pressed to respect the delicate skin and capture the best quality juice with purity of fruit, good minerality and acidity. The Grenache was fermented in 20% new, 40% second fill and 40% third-fill balance in unwooded barrels for 5 months, with lees contact. Both components were wild fermented. Finally the wine is blended with tank-fermented Viognier and prepared for bottling.

Richly textured and opulent with superb integration between the fresh green apple, fleshy peach and stone fruit from Grenache and citrus blossom, pear drop and intriguing spice from Viognier. A very well balanced and bold wine with multi-layered intricacy and richness that lends itself to best enjoyment with meals like veal Parmigiano, softshell crab with beurre blanc or roast quail with nut stuffing.
